Week 2: Breaking Bad Habits
Week 2 is in the books, with some more slow progress towards breaking old habits, and building new ones.
Another week down! So far, I’m definitely seeing some changes from the reset, however, I feel like I need to take it further — I need to commit harder, and lock-in on the goal. However, progress is progress, so for that I’m excited.
You can read an overview of my goals for this 52-week reset here: Week 0, and a recap of last week’s progress here: Week 1.
Pillar 1: Image & Mindset
This is absolutely an area I need to focus on more, and I plan to do so. The key goal is to have a better attitude about myself, my work, and life itself - and the only way I can do that is by actively practicing gratitude, mindfulness, and patience. I want to put more focus in week 3 on committing to the reset and on a better, brighter attitude each day.
The other portion of this pillar is focused on creating healthier routines and building the discipline to follow them — and for that, I’d give myself a C this week. Next week will be better.
Pillar 2: Health & Fitness
In week 2, I managed to complete 4 out of 7 workouts that I had scheduled. As I covered in week 1, I’ve chosen to follow the PiYo program from Chalene Johnson & Beachbody. So far, it seems like a solid program that covers my goals of losing weight while also increasing my range of motion and flexibility.
On the diet and eating front, I’ve made some progress, but again, I can definitely do better in the coming weeks.
Pillar 3: Finances
Last week, I said I wanted to create a new YNAB template to have some more detailed information on my spending habits. Instead of making a new template from scratch and losing the last couple years of data, I’ve chosen to make a few refinements to my current budget. I’ll probably start using a new budget template in the future (maybe in July, so I can start the second half of 2025 with a clean slate).
I’ve also cut my last credit card balance down to $500, which I should have paid off next month. After that, I’ll move onto paying down my personal loan balances (around $20,000).
Pillar 4: Hobbies & Social Life
I wouldn’t say I made much progress in this pillar, but I did manage to accomplish the goals I set in week 1: I took some time for myself and spent a day outside of the house and off work. School work continues to take up a lot of time I would otherwise spend on hobbies, but I’ll be graduating in 6 weeks, so things should improve over time in this pillar.
In week 3, I definitely need to push myself to cut down on pointless screen time and focus a little more on school.
Pillar 5: Building an Audience
Like I said last week, this pillar is definitely the most passive of them all — for now, the main goal is to keep publishing on this blog. My other goal last week was to start building a social media presence, which I failed to do. That will be back on the agenda in week 3. I think I’ll start with Bluesky...
All-in-all, it was another slow week, but I’m starting to break old, bad habits and now I need to start replacing them with better ones. I’m optimistic for the upcoming week, and hopefully I can report some real progress in the next few weeks.
